We were thrilled to host our first "Read Dating" event last night. Billed as "speed dating meets
book clubs," participants had eight minutes to chat with each other
about their favorite books and authors before the gents moved on to the
next lady. An enthusiastic crowd filled our second floor events space,
enjoying the refreshments and the conversation. Look out for more Read
Dating events in the near future!
Found here.
This sounds exciting. I would love to hear more!

What a fantastic idea. Having an event like this is a great way for single people to get to know each other in a fun and comfortable way - and they are meeting people that already have the same interests. I have recently begun online dating (my favorite site is www.findtruelove.com), but I'd love to attend one of these Read Dating events!

A great concept - and it makes all the sense in the world. One of the toughest things any dating site or organization has to do is find a way to get people with similar interests connected. You've come up with a novel idea. Kudos!

Sometimes it's more fun to meet people with dissimilar interests so that you can try something new!

What a great concept! I think the whole speed dating thing can normally be a bit hit and miss as you have little chance of meeting someone who suits you. At least in this case you know they are book lovers at a minimum, and can build on things from there!

It's as good a way to meet people as anything, I suppose. I guess it would make the book'ish a bit more comfortable. I wonder just how many of the participants feigned interest in books that made them recoil, tho?

I wonder if anyone brought a comic book to this dating event. LOL.

Lol that's actually a pretty good idea. I don't know if the crowd at my website (http://le69.com/escorts) would be conducive to that type of speed dating but I am going to throw up a poll and see what the reaction is.

Great idea! I am a single Christian woman who enjoys a good book, but I am also looking for a mate who shares the same interests as me. An event like this would really be the best of both worlds! I have tried Christian Dating sites as well, if anyone else is in a similar situation as me. They are a great, safe and secure way to find other people who share similar interests and beliefs.

"Participants had eight minutes to chat with each other about their favorite books and authors before the gents moved on to the next lady" - I remembered a local movie called "My Amnesia Girl" which played this kind of idea girl-to-boy speed introduction or speed dating. Its interesting how two individuals end up dating each other just after a very few minutes of expressing about their interests and likes.
This kinda give me an idea on having a fun event like this. :)

This kind of speed dating event had been actually known for sometime now, on which communication researchers invited and organized a sample participants on a few minutes date to conduct a study on how two individuals developed a mutual feeling even in the first few minutes of initial meetings. As a result there was a great deal of reciprocity involved when two individuals start liking each other.
In fact, one of the newest website http://www.filipinotodate.com, once held this kind of speed dating event to integrate communication among members.
