The mass market version of, THE HALO EFFECT, my latest novel, is being released this week and I'm not going to ask you to read it.
I am, however, asking you to buy it.
Read that part above again, because I've probably confused you. I know that when I first thought of this I confused myself.
Don't get me wrong. I'm proud of HALO - it was just nominated for an Anthony Award and got some reviews I'm really happy with - but I also know that if you are an editor or an agent, you only have time to read your own author's books. I know if you're a publisher, you don't even have time to read all of your author's books. And I know if you are a writer, you are way too busy writing to read practically anything anymore.
But how many unread books do you have sitting around your office, or on your nightstand? Why not make THE HALO EFFECT another one of them!

Or, it makes a perfect little gift for your mother-in -law, your dog groomer, your dental hygienist, your tennis instructor, your kid's babysitter, your favorite sales person - you know - the one who calls you when the shoe sale starts, the barista at your local Starbucks, the woman behind the desk at the gym who hands you a towel every day, the guy/gal at the gym who always reads on the treadmill and who you wanted to meet, your hairdresser, your real estate agent, your colon therapist, that random dude standing next to you waiting for the subway
This blog is dedicated to sharing ideas that might help writers and publishers promote books or at least think differently about marketing them. I hope that by helping others, the entire writing community will benefit. I don't generally use it to promote my own fiction but once a year or so, I hope you'll understand if I do just that.

So how about it?
$6.99 = blog.
Blog =$6.99.
Make my day and my Amazon or Barnes & Noble numbers look good. Or get one at your your local indy.
And then don't read it.
Or not.
*Subliminal special effects donated by author fellow blogger and author Keith Cronin who has a very funny post up today about this very blog.
I've seen authors all but beg their readers to post flattering reviews on Amazon.
So this is okay, especially since I expect authors to promote their books on their blogs.
I'll get it--and read it too. :)
PS That link to Keith Cronin's blog isn't working.

"But how many unread books do you have sitting around your office, or on your nightstand? Why not make THE HALO EFFECT another one of them!"
And people think I'm the one who writes comedy! This gave me my biggest laugh of the day. And there is so much truth in it. The way writers get to go on having careers as writers is for enough peopple to buy their books. So, everyone within the sound of my voice on this blog: Go out and buy MJ's book today! (And, while you're at it, buy mine too :)

The other unread books on my nightstand have been whispering about needing some new faces, come to think of it...

A week from today, I'll be posting my interview with MJ Rose on my blog, Kitty Litter. I've read the book and loved it, which is a major reason why I interviewed MJ.

I'm hitting a bookstore today, so I will take your request in DEADLY earnest and get two---one to read (since I am excited about it and planned to get it anyway) and one to support this blog. That spare copy I am sure will have a fulfilling life as a prop under the broken leg on my coffee table.
It's good to feel useful and needed, I will tell it, and if it whines that it wishes to be read and asks me to at least give it to a reading friend, I will say, TOO BAD, I am making all my friends go buy THEIR OWN.

I'm a novelist new to blogging and I've recently discovered your site. I'll log onto Amazon and buy your book to sit in my unread pile immediately! I mean, hey, I have plenty of other books written by friends of mine in that same pile... I'm longing to get more familiar with your site.
Here's a story about blogging and publicity. I launched my website a month ago; I started blogging two weeks ago. This morning, I got a call from a National journalist about my first novel (now out of print but available through Amazon), just as I picked that novel up to begin a play adaptation. True synchronicity or just the power of buzz?

About to go on vacation so it's the perfect time for a new book. It's not really my genre but I'll make an exception and broaden my horizons. I'll even read it and based on reviews, enjoy it. Plus, my wife will also want to read it.
I've enjoyed the Blog, so thanks.

You forgot to add: The more books you own that you haven't read, the smarter people will think you are. ;)
