Laura Garofalo

I hate that this is happening in the book world right now! There are so few venues left for physical books - and yet so many people still only read those. I hope this gets cleared up soon - I haven't read most of these books yet (but I'm going to check them out now), and I LOVED Lisa Renee Jones' IF I WERE YOU and hope others will be able to enjoy it as well.

Hello - I saw this on my Facebook news feed thanks to a link one of my colleagues and friends sent. I echo Ms. Garofalo's comments, and add that it is lamentable how publishers have ceased to be about artistry and giving the public a diversity of literature - now it's all about the bottom line (which it probably has been - I'm not that naive), and how much the publisher can take in. I hope this situation resolves soon for your sake, M.J., and all of the authors being held hostage.

I actually discussed this in my post yesterday. I agree with your readers, it not only falls on the bookstore, but the publishers and what they can do to help their authors during this time and any other time to promote books. I also value book bloggers and their use of social media to promote books, too. I actually read your book and rated it as an excellent cupcake! Here is the link:

Thank you BooksintheBurbs!!!! And Laura and Lady!

I'm happy to report that we've got all of them coming to the Indie bookstore I work at. We saw this type of thing a few years ago in the fight between MPS and Amazon. It didn't work out then, so I'm not sure why B&N is trying it again now. It just hurts authors and readers and doesn't get the companies what they want. So frustrating and heartbreaking!

It's difficult to imagine a book from a seller as popular as Picoult not being available, but we take your word for it . . .

Writer, not seller, sheesh. Was reading the post above me while typing.

Stork - Jodi's book is in most BN stores - but not in normal quantities and not on display in the way it was supposed to be. In fact many the top NYT bestsellers published by S&S are in the stores - just in much smaller quantities. BN has cut orders as much as 90% or more on titles And they are not offering display space. For instance, there were at least 100 BN stores that had one copy of my The Book of Lost Fragrances - but they were spine out on a back shelf instead of 100s of stores that were supposed to have had a pile of 6 books in the front of the store where people might see them. And if someone comes in and buys that one copy my book, that's it - the book is on a "do not reorder list". In the past if it sold it would be re-ordered. So now if that one copy sells - my book is no longer in the store and not visible. Most of the books on this list are among the hardest hit. Some more than others.

John Gordon

I think they reached an agreement. You may want to check again at a store MJ.

Sadly John, no - if you read my comment above yours - you're seeing BN choosing to show some of the bestsellers and some of the individual titles on their own but only in very limited quantities and not on display in the manner that S&S was willing to pay for. At the BN site you can see our books don't even have rankings and if one of the stores had some of these books but sold their copies and you try to have them order it - you'll find they won't order it for you except for home delivery.
