Ah- the same thing happened to me back in the day to the first several chapters of my master's thesis. Now I back up every day, every, every day, sometimes even hourly. Anal-retentive? You best. Sure beats that sick feeling when your work disappears!
And I never compose a blog entry within the blog- always in Word first, then copy and paste.
