But I Can't Sing!
The New York Press’s BEST OF MANHATTAN issue is out on the stands and Amanda Stern’s Happy Ending Reading Series has been chosen as the Best Reading Series.
Kudos to Amanda Stern
(who I had in my Buzz your Book class last year.)
The article credits her series as being the most fun and getting the best crowds. The series runs every Wednesday (summers off) takes place in a swank bar known as the Happy Ending Bar that's marked as a healing center on its yellow awning.
Amanda’s series is a major buzz generator and an idea that needs to be developed further in other cities, in other venues, in other ways.
The Happy Ending Reading Series obligates every author to sing or dance or perform in some way in addition to presenting his or her material.
That works for this series but there are other opportunities out there. Especially because not every author can sing or dance. But hell, most of us can schmooze in some way. What works is picking the right venue with the right attitude and coming up with a fun concept and then doing it every week and keeping it going.
Supper with suspense authors anyone?
