I never really imagined myself writing erotic romance. I just liked sex. I'm one of those "good girls." I have a vivid imagination about sex and the erotic...but it's a very spiritual and idealized view. And although I've written erotic prose since I was 13, it was a private thing, and the idea of writing that stuff for publication never occurred to me.
Until 2003, 25 years into my freelancing career.
I decided to post a piece of "spicy" Star Wars fan fiction online. Suddenly I was getting fan mail! Reader after reader wrote me about the story, and they all loved it, and praised its sensual but inoffensive style. Apparently I filled a niche: writing about sex for other "good girls."
So I rewrote my Star Wars tale, changing the names to protect the innocent (and myself from George Lucas's lawyers).
I wrote some more stories, and started seeking a publisher. In a matter of weeks I found two! Long story short, I published my anthologies first as ebooks and then as the paperback collection Soulful Sex: Erotic Tales of Fantasy and Romance, Volumes I & II. A year later Volume III followed, and I'm currently at work on three collections of erotic tales in the paranormal, science fiction, and fantasy genres. In the nearly three years that I've been selling erotic fiction, I've encountered countless romance readers searching for these types of stories: tales that deal frankly with sex but do so in a way that doesn't make the reader embarrassed or uncomfortable.
I try to keep the spiritual aspect of my writing in mind. That is not to say my stories are blatantly religious; I simply work to keep them positive, uplifting, and mindful of the healthy of the human psyche. I honestly believe one key to a happy, fulfilled life is a healthy and enthusiastic appreciation of the erotic. In view of that I write my stories, and not only sell them but share a number of them free with readers (www.livingbeyondreality.com/readfree.html), and also keep a blog called "Erotica with Soul" (www.eroticawithsoul.blogspot.com). It truly is a joy to spread my message that sex can be innocent, wholesome, and uplifting.
I guess I truly have found a calling. But five years ago, I never would have guessed it would be writing erotic romance!

Five years ago I'd never have guessed that I would be selling adult genre ebooks!
We find that BDSM is the best selling genre but I doubt that many of our customers actually practice this lifstyle.
It's just escapism, I guess.
